Designing and ordering a full teamwear collection for your sports team requires some careful planning. Team apparel can be a broader term than is often thought, but even when we refer specifically to what team members wear while "at play", there are still a variety of items to include.
Professional screen printing and custom embroidery companies can give you a lot of ideas on the details, and make ordering a snap. But here are some basic concepts to explore right away:
1. Order Both Home & Away Uniforms
Any team that is part of a league or association that has its own stadium or regular home field, but that travels for away games too - should make the home/away distinction immediately visible in its uniform design.
Your team's and/or school's ordinary colors and patterning should be chosen for home team apparel, while a modification or reversal works well for away. Generally, it's traditional to use lighter colors for home and darker (more "menacing and aggressive" looking) ones for away games.
2. Get Both Practice & Game Day Outfits
To look your very best as a team come game day, you may need to do more than just tell team members to wash their uniforms. Far better if game day has its own special apparel, so the more beat up look of practice uniforms doesn't dim your shine or fail to intimidate the opposing team. You could simply go without practice uniforms, but the team unity they engender make it worth it to invest in them, even in a scaled down form if necessary.
3. Provide For Multiple Weather Situations
Also consider that changing weather conditions will call for changes of team garb. Fleece jackets, hoodies, long versus short sleeves, shorts versus pants, extra socks in case of wetness or mud, and other variations may be appropriate.
The last thing you want is for team members to get sick or to underperform due to lack of ideal clothing during the game or practice session. Even though Florida is a warm state, it still has its colder spells - so don't neglect the means for your team to bundle up if you play during relatively chilly weather!
4. Order Special Coach & Assistant Apparel
Now, on the one hand coaches need to look like team members in their team apparel to promote team spirit and unity. But they also should have a few distinguishing marks, if even just the word "coach" or the "coach plus last name" embroidered on their shirts.
Everyone involved in team activities, even aside from players and coaches, should also have at least a T-shirt and hat, if not more, to make them feel like part of the team (which they are!).
5. Don't' Forget The Cheerleaders!
Finally, if your team has a cheerleader squad associated with it, they also need uniforms. And clearly, cheerleaders require special uniforms, so be sure not to overlook this aspect either.
Every team’s needs are different. This is why it’s important to partner with an experienced custom company who can help you think through the variables. For more great ideas on preparing your teamwear order for the 2019 season, or for a free quote on bulk orders, contact Sportsanity Custom today!
